Free Dental Care

Sealants for Smiles is a 501(c)(3) public charity providing free school based oral health education and dental sealants to Utah children in need.

Through a network of volunteer and paid dental professionals, Sealants for Smiles provides oral health assessments and application of dental sealants and fluoride varnish to children who cannot access or afford dental care. We serve children in portable dental units set up within the elementary schools.

Sealants for Smiles operates through the generous support from corporations, foundations, individuals and dental professionals. Dental Select, one of Utah’s largest dental insurers, donates all administrative services thereby allowing 100% of all contributions to go directly to program services.

4-Year Summary (July 2007 - April 2011)

  •  45,369 Children Participated in Oral Health Education
  •  26,369 Children have been evaluated by a Utah licensed dental professional
  •  66,432 Dental Sealants have been placed on 17,790 underserved Utah children
  •  More than $4.5 Million worth of dental services have been provided at no cost to parents or schools
  •  Conservative estimate: More than $60,000,000 Cost of Care prevented
  •  The "Unmet Dental Needs" of the children evaluated have decreased each year
  •  22% of the dental sealants placed have been evaluated 1 and 2 years after placement

    Decay has been found in less than 3% of the teeth evaluated
